Lost something precious? Let’s bring it home.

Another happy ending! 💍😊 Angela lost her ring while picking plums in the garden about 18 months ago. At the time, she thought she knew roughly where it had fallen and spent quite a while searching that part of the lawn, but unfortunately it never turned up.

When I arrived, Angela walked me through exactly where she had been and what she was doing when she lost the ring. I started by scanning the area she believed it should have been, but with no success. So, I widened the search. A big thank you to Angela’s husband, who was doing the digging while I worked the detector—it made for a great team effort! The second target I detected was the ring. It was so small that I didn’t spot it immediately, but then it caught my eye. The smile on Angela’s face says it all! She was absolutely thrilled to have her precious ring back after 18 months. I contacted Tim after receiving a request from nz ring finders that he lost his wedding ring while mowing the lawn in his backyard. Although I wasn't able to get there immediately due to prior commitments, we made a plan to search over the weekend. As it turned out, I was able to visit a day earlier than expected. When I arrived, Tim showed me where he believed the ring had been lost. While it's always helpful to have a likely location, lawn mowers can easily strike and throw small metal objects several metres from where they were originally dropped, so I knew it would be important to search beyond the obvious area.

The search wasn't straightforward. The yard was heavily contaminated with iron targets, meaning I had to investigate every signal that sounded even slightly promising. Early on I located a deeper target that seemed unlikely to be the ring, so I marked it for later investigation and continued expanding the search. One encouraging signal turned out to be a piece of cutlery buried just beneath the surface—a reminder that not every good signal is the one you're hoping for! Before moving on, I rescanned the immediate area, and this time a clean, shallow signal caught my attention.

Just below the surface lay Tim's ring. I carefully lifted it from its resting place and handed it back to him. With a huge smile, he exclaimed, "That's it! That's it!" Moments like that make every challenging search worthwhile. Another successful recovery, another relieved client, and best of all, Tim is safely out of the bad books!

Anna and her daughter Molly have a horse (Kiwi) that lost a horseshoe in a paddock and were worried that the nails may be sticking up and risk injury to Kiwi. Now this may be a first for the NZ Ring Finders - looking for an actual horseshoe. You may think it would be an easy find but it did present some challenges. Anna and Molly had already spent a fair bit of time searching for the shoe and although the paddock wasn’t large there were some areas with clumps of long grass. After searching the perimeter I started a grid search going across the paddock. One and a half hours into the search and three quarters of the way down the paddock I got a good signal on the soft earth where Kiwi had been walking. The pinpointer revealed the show just under the surface of the ground. There were several nails pointing upwards so they were right to be concerned and it was certainly worth the effort to find this horseshoes. I also scanned the immediate area to ensure there were no other nails lying around. Al C (Wellington)
